Chocolate Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:           

2 cups plain flour

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup butter (1 stick)

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups applesauce unsweetened

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Method: 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour a 9x13 Inch pan.

       1.      Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt.
                Set aside.

2.                 Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

3.                 Beat in eggs, one at a time.

4.                 Blend in the vanilla extract.

5.                 Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the applesauce

6.                 Pour batter into the 9x13 inch baking pan.

7.                 Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts on the top of the mixture.

8.       Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean when inserted into the center of the cake.

9.      Cool in the pan which is placed on a wire cooling rack.
