TO BEGIN MAINTENANCE IN WINDOWS XP:
Click on
START, then
MY COMPUTER

RIGHT click on the
"C" drive - your hard drive


LEFT Click on
Properties - the last item on
the list.
FIRST:
Click on
DISK CLEANUP.

Disk Cleanup will find all the files
that you may not need on your computer.

Put a check mark next to the ones that you wish to delete.
You may wish to keep the Office Setup Files so that you will not need to find
the CD to install extra features that were not installed at the onset.

After Disk Cleanup has finished
click on the TOOLS tab.
SECOND:
ERROR CHECKING: Click
on CHECK NOW

REMEMBER TO CHECK
BOTH BOXES

After you check the two boxes and hit
START a message will appear
letting you know that
you will need to RESTART (reboot) your computer
in order for this feature to
work. When you restart your computer a blue
screen will appear with white
writing. The procedure will go through 5
stages. Then it will boot-up (start)
into Windows.
THIRD:
DEFRAGMENTATION: (see diagram above)
Click on the
Defragment
Now
button and click on
Defragment.
It
is
not necessary
to click on
Analyze.
When the process is finished, close all the boxes.
If you perform the above maintenance regularly you will encounter
fewer problems with your computer.
