R. A. Storberg
(Ray Storberg)
Capturing the Spendour of the Ontario Countryside.
Reino Arvid (Ray) Storberg,
born in 1908,
came to Canada as a little boy from his native Finland. He acquired his
early training at the Ontario College of Art under such notables as: Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald and others associated with the Group of Seven.
Young Storberg fell in love with the Ontario countryside during sketching
trips with members of the Group of Seven. J. W. Beatty, in particular,
became his favourite artist and was to influence Storberg in his spirited
style with brush and knife.
With G. A. Kulmala, he sketched the
beauty of Ontario's northland, dramatizing the sky and moving cloud
formation. he portrays with masterly strokes Georgian Bay with its sun baked
rocks and wind-swept pines.
Storberg
captures the vivid splendour of autumn, the promise of spring, summer's
glory and winter nights when the snow is deep. Each of these moments become
a precious eternity.
After a successful
career in the Graphic Arts, Ray Storberg devoted all his time to his true
love, Fine Art. Some of the corporate collectors of Storberg's works
include: Air Canada, North Peel Radiologists, Barbarians's, W. G. How
Construction Ltd., Addison on Bay Ltd., Toyota's World Headquarters in
Tokyo, Japan, Selkirk Communications Ltd., Cogan Corporation and the British
Consulate- General to Canada.
Private collections are
to be found in Australia, Greece, Finland, Switzerland, England, United
States and the Philippines.
Although Ray Storberg is
no longer with us his paintings will never cease to delight those lucky
enough to own them. |
