How do I back up files on my Memory Stick?

It’s a good idea to save important files on a “Memory Stick” also called a “Flash Drive” or “Thumb Drive” as a Backup or for transferring data from one computer to the other. There are several ways in which to do this as explained below:

Procedure One: Save As.

1. Insert your Memory Stick into an available USB port on your laptop or PC tower. If it does not open automatically, go to “START” and click on “Computer” to view available drives. You should see your Memory Stick icon there. This shows that it is ready to receive or view data.

2. Open the document that you wish to save and click on “Save As.”  Usually this will open your “documents” folder which appears in the top of the open dialog box.  Click on the small down arrow on the right side of this box to reveal the “tree” or list of available locations in which to save your data. Click on your “Memory Stick” location and then click “Save.”

Procedure Two: Drag and Drop.

1.  Insert your Memory Stick into an available USB port on your laptop or PC tower. If it does not open automatically, go to “START” and click on “Computer” to view available drives. You should see your Memory Stick icon there. This shows that it is ready to receive or view data. Double click on the icon to open it.

2. Open “Documents” and set the two open “windows” side by side so that you can view them both.

3. Drag the file or folder from your Documents folder that you wish to copy to the Memory Stick, with the RIGHT Mouse, and drop it onto the Memory Stick Icon. Click “Copy” from the drop down box that will appear.

NOTE: Make sure that you “drag” with the “Right Mouse” otherwise you will drag the file or folder out of the document file instead of it being copied.
