SKYMARK I & II COMPUTER CLUB

Prepare Your Computer for 2007

October 2006

There was a great turn out for the last computer club meeting of the 2006 season as residents of Skymark I and II gathered to find out how to clean up their computers for the new year.

After showing a "screen recording" of the Skymark Website that Pamela had created, she explained, for the novice computer users, some basic features for using the internet and moving around links while surfing. Pamela demonstrated how to copy and paste information from the Internet as well as in documents and explained to the members that she had provided online exercises for them to use.

Members' questions were addressed and Pamela demonstrated the answers with the aid of her laptop and digital projector.

The evening ended with the FREE draw for 128MB Flash Drive, given by Ernest and Pamela. The lucky winner was Brian Stewart who said that he was "thinking of purchasing one to back up some of his documents" and that he was very pleased with his prize.

Before leaving, the residents thanked Pamela and said that they are looking forward to her return in 2007. Pamela reminded them that they can contact her by email 24/7 with their computer problems and they can expect to get an answer within 24 hours.

Refreshments were kindly supplied by the Recreation Center.

Prevention is Better than Cure

September 2006

In this workshop Pamela showed the group how to prevent problems arising while using their computers. "Being your own technician is the best possible way to solve computer problems. " Pamela explained. "You could even impress your friends by helping them with their computer worries."

Pamela gave the group a list of items to check before calling a technician and she showed them how easy it is to find the trouble spot. Computer Maintenance is an essential part of keeping your computer healthy and Pamela has posted detailed instructions on the SKCC website to perform these tasks.

Pamela requested that the members go to their website to fill in the survey for the programs that they wish to attend for next season.

Refreshments were kindly supplied by the Recreation Center.
