Tips and Tricks
Hunting Lakes Computer Club
Meeting of December
9th, 2010

Standing room only at
Pamela's Meeting in December 2010
Pamela demonstrated
shortcuts and easy ways to run a computer.
President's Report by Lou
Strumlauf
At our Dec. 9th meeting we were once again
witness to the reason that some presenters are unique and deserving of all
the praise that can be heaped upon them
Pamela Tabak is the Presenter that I am talking about. Having her as a
speaker means that you don’t have to worry about her being prepared or that
her presentation will not be well received . No matter what the subject
matter is, you know that she has done her homework and that all our members
will thoroughly enjoy what she puts before them.
We go back a long time with Pamela. She has been educating and bringing
enjoyment to our members with presentations at least once a year since 2004.
Her topic this time was “Tips and Tricks”, and we all became privy to some
bit of information that was new to us. In addition, all our members are
always eager to ask her questions related to problems with their computers.
She did not disappoint them with her answers. Pamela relates to seniors in a
very remarkable way. In this connection, she is the author of a widely read
book entitled “Computer Tips for Seniors” - “How to become a computer wise
Grandparent”
With any luck, we will have her back next year.

Clean Your Computer for 2008
Hunting Lakes Computer Club
Meeting of January
10th, 2008

Full House at Pamela's
Meeting in January 2008
Back in Feb. 2006,
Pamela Tabak was at Huntington Lakes doing a presentation called
“troubleshooting your computer”. At that time, it seemed like she taught us
everything that could be learned. After her presentation, “WE KNEW IT ALL”
Surprise, surprise! On
Jan. 10th, 2008, Pamela was back on our podium with a new program
titled “clean up your computer for 2008”, and just by logging onto a a
webpage tutorial a whole new world opened up. Her program was so well
orchestrated; it was like a Beethoven symphony. She started out with an
overview and then showed our members and guests how to keep their computers
operating at top performance by following certain routine tasks. They
included running anti spyware (recommending ad-aware 2007 plus) and anti
virus programs, disk cleanup & defrag. frequencies; all of which were
outlined in tutorials that she made available to everyone thru her
web-site. It wasn’t as though these things were new to us, it was the
crystal clear way they were presented.
Pamela answered many
of the group’s questions, some during her presentation, and others following
same. Many of the questions were about “Excel” and she handled them like
the Pro she is.

Troubleshooting Your Computer
Hunting Lakes Computer Club
Meeting of February
9th, 2006

Pamela at the meeting, doing
what she does best.
There was a huge turnout for
this meeting probably because our members knew that Pamela Tabak would be
presenting the program.
After a few introductory words , the meeting was turned over to Pamela and it
was all uphill from there. Her program was called “troubleshooting your
computer” and as expected, she “came to teach”, well prepared with her laptop
and projector in a ready mode.
The thrust of her presentation was to teach our members enough about the basic
operation of their computers so that if they were having problems they could
recognize them and probably avoid the need for professional service calls for
minor things. By showing slides of the power cords, printer leads, USB cables
and ports and generally all the little details of operation, we could see enough
to know that switches must be turned on, cables must be connected , etc. These
little things gave our members a sense of not being in the dark when they turned
their computers on and they failed to work.
She discussed completely the safety steps one should take to keep his/her
computer trouble free, including, but not limited to: daily use of Ad-aware,
updating anti-virus programs, disc defragmenting, etc.
Pamela loves to teach, and that was evident in the way she responded and
answered questions from the floor. There was no question too small or too big
for her to answer, and she made every questioner feel that their problem was
unique and worthy of and explicit response. When the meeting was formally over,
our members were still flocking to her to discuss their problems, and also to
compliment her on a job well done.

Windows XP versus Windows 98
Hunting Lakes Computer Club
Meeting of March
9th,2005

Full House at Huntington
Lakes for Pamela's Presentation
Our Club was
fortunate to have Pamela Tabak with us as our guest speaker. As a representative
of the BRCS, she was a shining example of the quality of people involved with
that organization.
Pamela’s
subject was the comparison of Windows XP as compared to Windows 98. Her
presentation was so convincing and enlightening, she could have convinced Steven
Jobs (of Apple) to pack in his operating system in favor of XP.
To the
delight of our members, she remained after the completion of her program to
handle a Q&A session, not restricted just to questions on XP. We gave her an
open invitation for a return visit - with new material of course. As usual we
concluded our meeting with a raffle of computer related items- a popular treat
for our members who are willing to chance the purchase of a ticket. Our next
meeting will be on April 14th, and will be preceded by a little party of sorts;
coffee, cake, etc , which will be chaired and put together by our very able Flo
Greenberg.

Buying and
Selling on eBay Presentation
Huntington Lakes Computer Club
April 2004

Lou Strumlauf, our club's web-master
and treasurer, then introduced Pamela Tabak who presented a very well
prepared 45-minute Power-Point slide program on E-Bay. Pamela demonstrated
many very interesting items for using this well-known Internet site and
answered questions that helped those in attendance to understand various
functions.
The eBay Presentation by
Pamela Tabak, BRCS SIG Leader, was very well received. There were
approximately 55 members in attendance. The majority were women. They had
many questions about using eBay as well as general questions on using the
computer, which Pamela was well equipped to answer.
Our Question and Answer session
followed with both Jack and Pamela replying to
many computer related inquires covering several areas.
