"OUT OF THE BOX"
BRCS SPECIAL
INTEREST GROUP
Understanding Windows XP
Coco Woods
Computer Club
December 2006

Happy to have made it though the storm, members eagerly
await instruction on Windows XP
It was a brave group that
ventured out in a heavy rainstorm on December 14th 2006 to hear Pamela Tabak
explain how Windows XP can be configured and easily understood. More members
trickled in as the class was in session, after the rain subsided. Pamela was
filling in for Jerry Flomen who usually runs this BRCS SIG.
Pamela ran a short
PowerPoint presentation showing the computer keyboard and shortcuts that can be utilized
to make the members' computing experience easier without using the mouse. Pamela demonstrated and explained in
detail, some of the new features of the Windows XP operating
system, comparing them with those of previous versions of
Windows. Making files and folders, cleaning up the desktop, arranging the start
menu, printing problems, inserting a picture into an email, using the Internet
and so much more was covered.
Security was a large part of
the discussion and
Pamela explained that if "Computer Maintenance" was run regularly most computer
"glitches" would be avoided. This information can be accessed at:

Pamela answered questions
from the floor and explained
that these features, and the way to apply them, can be access from the TUTORIALS on her website at:
http://tinyurl.com/ozerx
where a link to print
them is supplied.
After the
demonstration Pamela talked about the benefits of belonging to
the Boca Raton Computer Society and attending her Novice and Intermediate SIGs
on the third Tuesday of every month and the EXCEL SIG before the BRCS General
Meeting on the third Wednesday of the month. Pamela also invited the members to
take advantage of her FREE 24 hour tech support by
E-MAIL
The answer to the
members' questions usually arrives within 24 hours.
The
meeting closed with members gathering around
Pamela to ask additional questions.
