Exercises for Using The Mouse
for New Computer Users

 

When you purchase your first computer you will need to get used to working with the "mouse."  To help you get started let's have some fun with Jig-Saw Puzzles and Games.


 
 

To Scroll Down the Page:

You can use the SCROLL BAR that appears on the right side of every screen by pointing to the arrow at the bottom right of the screen or at the top to scroll up. you can also point to the scroll bar, hold down the left mouse while dragging the bar up or down.


 

To Begin:

  • Click on one of the Jig-Saw Puzzles below. You may wish to start with the "easy" one first.

  • When the puzzle opens, Click ONCE in the center of the picture to scatter the pieces.

  • CLICK and DRAG the pieces into place. If you have your speakers on you will hear them click together when placed correctly.

  • See how quickly you can do it!

  • Click "help" on the little gray menu bar for a complete description of the menu items. There are many helpful tools for you. Click the black triangle to hide the menu bar and helper image.

Note: this game requires Netscape 3.0 or later or Internet Explorer 3.01 or later with Shockwave 6.0 or later installed. If you do not have Shockwave please click on the Shockwave button below.

The text which is underlined in blue below is called a Hyperlink. When you click on it ONCE with the LEFT mouse it takes you to another place, usually a website. In this case it will take you to  the CRAYOLA website to choose more games.

You will notice that your POINTER turns into a HAND when it points to a Hyperlink.

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. This is the Web Address of a web page, or another type of document, that is available on the Internet. The URL or WEB ADDRESS is the instruction to your browser for the exact location of the page you wish to visit on the Internet.


          
     COPY AND PASTE    
    

This is one of the most useful features that you will ever use on your computer. It is time saving and avoids mistakes when copying from a document, an e-mail or from the Internet.
