Lorenzo Carcassi Violin  Florence, Italy - 1776

     An Outstanding Instrument

I have loved the violin for over 60 years but there comes a time when one has to let go, so I am putting my beloved Lorenzo Carcassi Violin up for auction hoping that it will be purchased by someone who will love and care for it as much as I have.

I purchased my violin in 1965 from Rembert Wurlitzer, Inc. and I have the original certificate of authenticity and photographs that will be given to the successful bidder.

The description on their Certificate of Authenticity with owner's name deleted.  reads as follows:

We certify that the violin sold by us was made in our opinion by Lorenzo Carcassi and bears a label dated Florence 1776.The back is cut on the quarter from two pieces of maple with strong medium narrow flames descending from the center joint at the upper and middle areas, horizontal at the lower area. It is further marked by wavy vertical veins. The top is cut from two pieces of spruce of mostly medium width grain. The sides and scroll are of maple similar to that of the back.
The varnish has a golden brown color. Photographs are attached.

I studied for a few years with the renowned Broadus Erle who played my Carcassi Violin and stated that "In my opinion your Carcassi has a sweeter tone than my Guarnerius." (a violin made by Giuseppe Guarneri,) Giuseppe Guarneri, born Aug. 21, 1698, died Oct. 17th, 1744.

In 1986 skillful restorations were made to my Carcassi Violin by the renowned Master Violin Maker and Dealer Hans J. Nebel of Harrington Park, NJ. USA. My violin has always been kept in a climate controlled atmosphere and treated with great care.

The fortunate, successful bidder will not only enjoy playing, but will be proud to own this exquisite instrument.
